About Myself

Dr. Philipp Kneis teaches cultural and political theory at Oregon State University and the University of Tübingen and serves as Faculty Fellow at Fielding Graduate University. He holds a Master's degree in History and American Studies from Humboldt University Berlin, and a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Potsdam, Germany. Having grown up in Communist East Germany, his research and teaching have been dedicated to questions of democracy, political theory, European integration, global diversity and human rights.

For over twenty years, he has organized the Transatlantic Students Symposia, an international field school bringing European, American and other students together on topics related to civic education, democracy, transnational cooperation, cultural trauma and environmental policy. He is an active member of the Climate Dialogue Group, which is affiliated with Fielding Graduate University. His current research is dedicated to Utopian political thought. He also writes poetry and music and blogs at erraticattempts.com.
